The United States do things differently, Wiens explained, saying rules and regulations can vary between states.

And while milk imported from away must run into Canadian health and safe standards, there is no requirement that the farms at which they are produced have to come across Canada'due south on-farm standards.
This means some U.S. dairy farms still employ products like Recombinant bovine somatotropin (rSBT) — a genetically-engineered hormone that increases milk product in cows — which is banned in Canada, Wiens explained.
According to Wellness Canada, although it was adamant that rBST did not pose a wellness risk to humans, there were animal health concerns, and therefore information technology was never canonical for sale.

What's more than, Wiens said there are currently no restrictions that bar products from animals containing rBST from entering into Canada.
This is because the hormone is considered an animate being health concern, not a man wellness one, he explained
"The foreign products need to encounter the Canadian standards for health and prophylactic from a human perspective, but not from how the production is produced," he said.
Wiens added that products made from dairy produced past animals containing rBST "won't necessarily" be labelled as such.
"I would say that this would exist a business concern," he said. "I do know that Canadian consumers are concerned about how their food is produced, and I know that in that location is a lot of business organisation about the apply of the production hormones in food production."
In an electronic mail to Global News on Thursday, a spokesperson from the Canadian Nutrient Inspection Bureau said all domestic and imported foods sold in Canada, including dairy products imported from the United States "must meet Canada's nutrient prophylactic and labelling laws."
